The Ego

I've recently had some new thoughts about ego in people's lives. I would have to say that Ego cannot be totally erased from a person's reality. Everything that makes up the material world that is artificial has some kind of egocentricism to it. I'd say that the only things that are not egoish are nature related things. So my point is, you can't totally avoid the ego, no matter what you do. I guess the best path is to learn to live with it and not be rejectful of it.

We are also related to nature, but our consciousness is one and many at the same time so it is impossible for us to totally leave the Ego behind. Our Ego is our own identity and when used correctly (for it is a tool!!) we can achieve great things with it in combination with our group consciousness.
Sometimes, it is okay to think of yourself and to do what is best for you. That is the Ego preventing you from draining yourself.

Right, thanks. I've had it in my head that the Ego was something that should actually be rejected in my life. But in order to show somebody something I feel or want to explain, It is needed to manipulate the material world.

If you reject the Ego, you'll have a big problem in no time. Been there, done that, so to say... and it feels like you've become a fluffy doormat. ;D
Actually, there's no need to manipulate the material world. You can have enough influence on it without totally and utterly using your Ego. I only use the Ego-thing in matters where I need to give my opinion or talk about my experience.

I think there is a reason to manipulate the material world. Doing so in a way can show connectedness and beauty. In art, I think the ego can show that.

I am very artsy, and I have never felt the need to manipulate anything with the Ego. When I work in art I am connected to the Source and so I have no need for my own Ego to appear in my work.
I have little love for the material world at the moment. Everything outside of me is strange. My Ego cannot handle my own soul, and I'm getting tired.
And I'm making no sense again.

*Ponders* Does the alpha male of each animal species have an ego, to a certain extent? He has pride, strength, and perhaps an ego insisting he IS the alpha male, and should fight for his position?
Anyway. I embrace my ego. The Ego is probably a part of The Mind. The part where you say "You are a winner! You can do this!" Generally I think my ego is what gives me the amazing strength to face each day.

During the day, I've been thinking, maybe what I thought was ego, really isn't. I feel more comfortable and in control, since I've let this part of me that I've been rejecting come back into my life. If you are acting egoish, would you know it? I suppose you would have to, it really wouldn't be ego then. It would be ignorance. Ego might be a defense "mechanism". I put mechanism in quotes because the phrase is meant to imply unconscious action, by the unconscious person that coined it.

I think my Ego's taking a back seat for the moment, but will (hopefully) be back in action soon-ish.

it was funny?! hehe... it's just that I feel everything changing and I prefer to go into a sort of cocoon when it happens. I became aware on Sunday that it's doormat-time for me again, so hopefully not too many people will walk on me while the worst is happening. Darn uni... all I really want to do is sleep

Well, you can always become a biting doormat in case it gets really bad. I think that our Ego-problem consists of the fact that we can look beyond the veil of illusion and adapt this into our Ego. Other people can't do that... so they don't easily get this and sometimes treat us as if we're doormats. If that makes sense.

That makes perfect sense Althri. We "adapt" to them, so to speak and they don't even realize it. I think it's so damn frustrating, especially in music, which is my LOVE. I try to play what comes from my heart but the accompaniest doesn't know how to look at that, then criticizes me for what I'm playing when I KNOW WHAT I'M DOING! I really gotta find another accompaniest.

If you don't mind distance and laziness I'll be your accompanist!! If we hit it off then I should be able to mesh with you and hopefully be able to follow what you're doing ^-^
^ That's the one thing I'm proud of when it comes to me playing with other people.

Haha, "laziness". Hmmm, Australia.... I have been wanting to take a trip on an Airplane. How long have you been playing piano? I've been playing violin for 17 years. I really just let whatever is inside of me rip when I play, or want to at least.... I don't even care if the notes are together or not. I just want to play with somebody that isn't about doing it the "right" way. That really depresses me. Not doing it the "right" way allows for growth and evolution.
Maybe I could send you a recording of my playing so you could hear it.

Depends on whether you count proper training or not... I took formal classical lessons for 8 years but I can't remember when I started mucking around on Grandma's piano - knowing me, probably as soon as I could climb onto the seat and keep myself upright! And I love your idea of how to play, it completely coincides with mine ^-^
Dare I get excited about hearing a recording?

I think many are right, the Ego can not be ignored and tried to shoved under a rug. There is a reason why we have an Ego and it's to protect our Inner Child, when we do not pay enough attention to our Inncer Child our Ego steps up and goes into self-protection mode. This creates scenarios that limit us in hopes to pay more attention to ourselves. The problem occurs when we don't pay attention! lol A part of what we are here to learn is to integrate the Polarities, we must accept that the Dark is part of the Light. And as some one said, it is a tool to be used not a weapon for wrath.
