It seems there has been an increased interest in the Astral Projection field; to compensate this inflation in interest, I will be posting a few different well-known methods to achieve a successful Astral Projection as well as a few basic tips before you get started.
But before I get into this, what is the difference between Astral Projection and Lucid Dreaming? Answers to this question will vary from person to person, so here is my understanding of it. Aside from all the bells and whistles that go along with Astral Projection, the main difference lies in how you perceive the experience. In a Lucid Dream, you are dreaming and are aware of it. In an Astral Projection, you are consciously projecting your awareness outside of your physical body. Some people believe that when you dream, you are actually in your Astral Body, wandering around and letting your subconscious lead the way. And during a Lucid Dream, your conscious mind takes control but you still perceive that you are only in a dream. Other people believe that while we do Astral Travel during sleep, dreams still only exist within our minds. If this is the case, that would be a major difference. But basically the best way to tell and understand is to experience both, then you will know the difference.
Now for the basics. First of all, keeping A.P. fresh in your mind is a proven way to more easily induce out of body experiences. Reminding yourself throughout the day of your intent, is a solid way of forcing the desire to Astral Project into your subconscious mind. Making it much easier for your subconscious to trigger the experience.
Secondly, in each of the techniques that are listed below, the first step is always to relax your mind and body enough to bring you to that drowsy state which lies in between sleep and wakefulness and to maintain it without actually falling asleep. There are countless methods that may be used to accomplish this, but unfortunately there is no universal technique that works for everyone. So basically what you have to do is experiment to see what works best for you. Try sitting/lying in different positions, use relaxing music or no sound at all, so on and so forth. As with any form of relaxation/meditation, whatever feels most comfortable to you will be the best method that you can use.
Finally, when out of body, I can give no guarentees that your experience will be a pleasant one. The vibratory levels of your Astral Body at the time will have a direct influence on where you "end up." For the most part, you will find yourself in the Astral Plane which basically put, is like a mirror of the Physical Plane. To go more in depth on this; if an object is manipulated in the Physcial Plane, the changes can be seen in the Astral Plane. For example, if a family member in the Physical Plane walks into your room while you are in your Astral Body, you may very well see them in real-time as it is happening. BUT, time in the Astral Plane can be very distorted at times; so again, if you were to see a family member enter your room, you could be seeing this event either before it's actually happened, after it's actually happened, or while it is actually happening.
Now as I was saying before, you also may not necessarily end up in the Astral Plane. If you happen to be in a negative mood at the time of projection, your Astral Body's Vibration may be lower than usual, and you could very well end up in one of the "Lower Planes." These particular planes go by many different names so for the sake of argument, I will only refer to them as the "Lower Planes." In these Lower Planes, your chances of encountering negative/disturbed, beings/energies are much, much greater. The most important thing to remember in this type of situation is not to panic or create any more negative energy. Just as in your dreams, you cannot be hurt in your Astral Body and may return to your Physical Body at anytime. In many to most cases, the disturbed entity is actually a lost or stuck soul. One that, after death, has found them self stuck in one of these planes. If you should find yourself "face to face" with any undesirable entities, comfort them...send them positive energy, which should counteract the negative energy that is fueling that particular entity. (There are actually some people who strictly use Astral Projection to project to these Lower Planes, in attempts to guide these lost souls up into the Higher Planes.)
But just as you may project to one of the Lower Planes, it is also possible to project to a plane higher than the Astral Plane. I won't go into any details on the Higher Planes here. The main reason being that my knowledge/experience of the Higher Planes is quite limited, not ever having consciously experienced them myself. And from what I understand, attempting to describe them to somebody who hasn't yet experienced them is quite difficult to say the very least. So I will just leave it at that, and let you learn about them for yourselves.
