Where to begin?
At the beginning of course...
Since mankind first learnt to move, we have encountered social interactions, these include wars, making love, but the dance is one of the greatest and perhaps least understood of our actions.
Qi gong is not like a dance, yet in some wayss it is like the dance of a lone person who has no care nor worries. The purpose of qi gong is to reach the true nature of the universe.
There are many forms of qi gong from tai chi or martial art qi gong, to health qi gong, and also spiritual qi gong.
My first encounter with qi gong was probably when I looked in myself for methods of dealing with my brothers aggression. Then I encountered various martial arts, but it was not somethingg that I could endure. Then, at the age of around 16, I found out about falun gong, and learnt the excercises with renewed endeavor. Almost or maybe passed the point of getting carried away. I remember feeling distinct urges to do qi gong in places that I just walked around finding, or even on the move whilst walking!
The form of qi gong I do, as I have mentioned is falan gong, designed to turn the law wheel that is in our abdomens...Now I don't know about no law wheel, but I do know that it is there that we find our center of balance.
In my understanding of the five excercises that I do, two are for opening the meridians in the body, and attempting to harmonize the inside meridians with the outside meridians. One is to channel earth energy outside into our feet, andd heaven energy outside down into our bodies, and then, circulate the energy around our bodies, thus circulating the energy internally as well.
There are no visualizations in qi gong, therefore it is all done with arm movements to direct the mind.
It is stated that there are various feelings qi gong can produce. Blockages of qi may feel cool when qi is flowing from outside in in attempt to remove the blockage or qi may feel hot when it isn't flowing. I like the tingling feeling that qi can produce, although it might be said that feeling light or weightlessness is the best description of what qi should feel like.
So how does this relate to healing?
Well, Nowadays pescription healing is done by seeing the body as composed of the body, and not just body, and nature and universe. Qi gong is very common in china and there healing the body was developed with an understanding of the body as being part of nature, that is part of the universe. So qi gong is also about using the universe to heal us.
Meridians is a tricky subject to approach, but approach it we shall, and then we can see or know of feel, that meridians are like pathways within and witthout. Meridians are like the pathways of the wind. There are defined channels of wind that move over the earth caused by the universe twists and turns. But also meridians are in our bodies. For those that cannot see them, in our bodies, there are two channels on either side, our left and right, these look like a tuning fork. If you understand how a tuning fork harmonizes the two ends to produce a vibrationary sound, then one may similiarly understand how they work in our bodies, except that the sound in our bodies is slowed down so much that the area around the tuning forks also contains meridians, criss crossing one another. When one opens up to the meridians of the universe then apparantly, one's own meridians become just one central channel.
To end, I would like to mention that there is more to qi gong than just performing the actions and discovering the results, part of it is also about a tradition with it's spectacular happenings and history. So for as long as qi gong will be around, there will be people undertaking the dance of life
