Hey mods!
I'd just like to suggest a cultural topic, that makes room to discuss the social sciences and anthropological sides of the countries we live in. I understand that we are an international board, but some of the countries we live in are completely different to each other and it is important to recognise some of the fundamental differences in cultures such as religious backgrounds, traditions... the differences between large cosmopolitan cities, and the smaller more rural towns we live in.
Do you like having access to all the luxuries of metro city life? Or do you much splendour the peaceful environment of less populated areas?

Hey Bee
This sounds like a good idea to me. You're a brilliant mind.

Hey brendan,
I think this is a great idea. Where you thinking of a topic for this or a seperate board or sub-board?

I love the sound of that too.
Where would it fit into, if it were a sub-board?

How about under Finding Unity? The general board already has a sub-board and I don't think it really fits under any other board? What do others think?

Sounds good to me---it would help us to "find unity"! Knowledge = understanding = unity!

It would probably be best suited under finding unity, although I dont think that many social scientists view cultural studys as finding unity at all, although Im sure its rather capable of helping with that. Its more a study of the way people live in their environment. I guess it *could* work though. Hmmm..

Sounds really awesome - strange that I'm taking a cultural anthropology class this semester! I think the Finding Unity board would be perfect.

Back to Brendan's question; I've never lived in a large metropolitian area but the times I have been visiting them are passing through I prefered my home town of 10,000. We are a small community yet very diverse and everything I need I can find here. I love it.

It seems that you always want to live somewhere else than you are. I have many values for my mums homecountry of the phillipines but some of them are illusionary.

I can imagine I'm the same with Europe... I've always felt a tie to there and I guess being quarter-Italian's only part of it. As a kid I always planned on moving there, but I have a feeling Australia will always remain "home", even though I'll travel quite a bit.

Home will always be home, cos of the family and the memories attached to it. But I do want to move to another country when I'm older because my soul doesn't feel that the Netherlands are a home in themselves for me. I don't really like my country much at the moment... but I suppose that's more related to my issues with the government than anything else.
