Today, I hung out for a solid 5 hour stretch of me, a mom, and two children.
They came over to my apartment and were visiting from Victoria Island, B.C.
At 12:30 p.m., they arrived with vigor and curiosity to see what kind of person I would be, in a strange house, with a new energy.
For FIVE hours we painted, coloured, collaged, made a book, made jewlery, and won prizes. I also made blackberry banana smoothies, cheese and crackers, nuts and raisins, and nut butter and honey on pita bread.
It was the best party I've been to in a long time. At one point, we closed all the curtains, and turned off all the lights. I turned on my really cool music operated disco light, fired up my mechanical bubble machine, and cranked the funk music. Right in the middle of the afternoon!
Then we went for a walk. We got fresh baked goodies from the bakery, balloons, and juice. When we got back home, we all went to their grandma and grandpas house and had a big dinner and played a fun board game called Cranium.
I just got home.
More on the kids.
The pictures they created were so amazing. It was awe inspiring to see how quick they are. Able to comprehend so much all at once.
Anyways, really cool info.
I have a continuing screensaver of photos that have been saved to the drive of my computer. So there's a succession of many pictures that scroll forward onto the screen.
At one point, the 6 year old pointed out that she knew the girl Chelsea in the picture. I was sort of stunned, and didn't respond very quickly.
I shook my head and said how do you know Chelsea. (Chelsea is my sister's daughter in Winnipeg), there is no way they could know eachother. She says, "I talk to her all the time."
I looked at her mom and said "how does she know that's Chelsea" She said, "I don't know it's pretty wierd. She has a friend named Chelsea."
Okay...
Later, she goes on to ask me questions like what is my whole name, what is my birth sign in the astrological and Chinese zodiac. She tells me her whole name, and then stresses her last name to me. "Willlllll-Cox. I have will in my name." I swear, she was staring at everything I am. Straight into my two eyeballs, and my whole expression .
I said nothing, but nodded gracefully in acknowledgement.
Okay...
I'm not used to kids being around. In fact, I'm pretty far removed from them in my lifestyle.
My point is, wow, what a gracious experience.
