Well.. I was filling out an on-line job application for Shopko, filling in the usual information you need to provide, when at the end they ask you about 100 questions related to your personality and how you respond to different situations in general.
Now, I've never seen this as part of applying for a job before and know about surveys and survey research being a psychology major. Another thing, the opions for anwsering were: Strongly Agree, agree, disagree, Strongly disagree. There was no neutral! That, and some of the questions were worded weirdly.
I think having these types of questions on a job application is ethically questionable. What do you guys think?

Hmm.
I'm not sure really. You'd wonder why they need to know what you're like as a person as long as you can do the job ya know?

What is Shopko exactly? I know that people who go into the military stuff have to do all these personality tests because it is important that they respond correctly to the tasks they have to do... but I've never heard of a test being provided for a job other than that. I've filled out some tests like this before and often the questions were worded very strangely. I find it strange that there was no neutral in the test you filled out... I haven't got a problem with tests like this but I think you should at least be given the chance to stay neutral when answering a question. Hmm, does this make sense?

If one discriminates another on a dynamic trait then that is unfair. I do not know if our persoanlity changes...I find it doesn't so it's reasonable to ask about it. Although just asking your birth date and time and exact location can be good enough.

Hmm.. Okay so maybe I'm going off on a tangent, but I think personality can change. I'm only speaking from personal experience, and it might only happen once in a lifetime for us, but my personality has changed a lot to be honest. .. Anyone have thoughts? Or if not feel free to continue the original topic

In New Zealand, your personality is the only thing a potential employer won't negotiate on. They might say they want someone with a certain set of qualifications, or a certain set of skills, but they will settle for someone who doesn't have these if all the applicants who do are people that don't have the right personality to work in the company. This isn't discrimination, it's just being sensible and not hiring someone that would cause more trouble than they would solve.

Hmm don't have much more insight than what's already offered, but yes, I agree that I think it's unfair and if these tests are to become more widespread, they should have a more efficient way of doing them. (No "neutral" option... wow... now you gotta worry about the guy who was designing that thing, lol.)
