Hello everyone! I was hoping to get people's opinions on dreams. I have rather vivid dreams most of the time, and I usually remember them in the morning, but I get confused about them. How do you know how much attention to pay to your dreams, and what's in them? How can you tell when your dreams are trying to tell you something important, or if they are simply a subconscious reflection of what you experience during the day? I'd just like to hear how others react to different types of dreams and figure out their meetings. Thanks so much

Well, if you remember your dreams so well in the morning I highly suggest starting a dream journal. We have a small community of them at www.blogger.com so if you decide to start one there I'll link you to everyone else, hehe. Basically just record your dreams and follow them. I've found there's three different kinds of dreams that I have - symbology dreams (which are very "all over the place" and hard to follow but hold a lot of hidden meaning about my future/past, usually good to get a reliable dream interpretation book for these ones, the symbology is sometimes very weird and random), then I'll get what I term 'memory dreams' and these are dreams that have chronological order to a certain extent, but moreso they seem to happen in either the same place or the same time frame, just maybe in different areas of that place or with different people. In these ones I feel that I am either remembering fragments of a past life or perhaps visiting places I will be in the future - these dreams often leave to dejavu in my real life. Then the third kind of dreams I call "Astral Projection" dreams and these ones are very easy to follow chronologically - in fact, they make perfect sense - and they're usually incredibly vivid and hold some of the symptoms of astral projection. In these dreams, your soul usually visits the other side for rejuvination I feel, in one I actually went swimming with a pod of whales, it was amazing. Also, do you dream in color often? They say that the more psychically aware a person is, the more often they dream in color. I think I've only had maybe one or two black-and-white dreams and the rest are in very vivid color, how about you? So yeah, keep a dream journal, get a reliable dream dictionary, and basically study your dreams. Everyone's subconscious has a unique way of communicating with them and after a while I think you'll be surprised at the patterns/coincidences that occur. =)

CM, thanks you for the info, it was exactly the kind of thing I was hoping to hear! I will definitely start a journal @ blogger.com, I'm very interested in interpreting dreams, so it sounds like a good place to be. I honestly think that the last time I had a black and white dream was when I was 8, it's one that I've remembered since then, but that's the only black and white dream that I recall, the rest are always in color. From your description it sounds like I have symbology dreams a lot. I actually had a very crazy one last night, where my surroundings/the place/the time were constantly changing, but a close friend of mine was constant and unwavering throughout the whole thing. Thank you again for the info, when I post I always hope that you'll reply because your words are always very thorough and have complete truth to them, so thanks for that too CM

The dreams I've had that fascinate me the most always involve flying. I've been on carpets, held onto balloons, and glided with my arms over the ground, or I just end up in places. Once I ended up over the mountains, and it was putrid with the smell of tar. The experience of flying to and over the mountain was exhilarating, but the destination was wrong. I also saw a demon, once. It held me in it's gaze, and wouldn't let me wake up from the fear. But, I understand the flying ones the least.

Maiden hit the nail on the head. I agree, I would say your best bet would be to start a Dream Journal. The most effective method I've found is at least keeping a piece of paper and a pencil next to your bed so the first thing you can do when you wake up is start recording your dreams from the night before. (Because the longer you wait to record the dream(s), the likelyhood of forgetting portions, if not all of the dream(s) becomes increasingly greater.) By doing this, you will be able to much more easily recognize patterns that occur in your dreams. Which in turn can help you to understand them better.
