I can't stand perfumes either, even in small doses. In most cases I would prefer smelling someone's sweat to having to smell so-called deodorant. I like the smells of good food. I like most natural smells, even some that most people don't like (like the smell of wet dogs or of pigs). The sound of those hand dryer things in public toilets drives me crazy, makes me want to punch a hole in them or lie on the ground with my hands on my ears. I can't stand the sound of the screen of old tv's (most people can't even hear it). I don't like flourescent lights either. My favourite artificial light was from a rod of electrified iodine-doped polyacetylene, but such lights are a new invention and you can't buy them from shops (pity, they are the most efficient light in the world and make such a nice light). My favourite light is sunlight, and then the light of a big fire. Like you, I can't stand most cleaning agents, though I can tolerate the smell of methylated spirits. I have an intense dislike of chlorine, I can taste it in tap water and it is horrible but I put up with it because it's better than going thirsty. Other interesting things? I love the feeling of soil on my hands, and the feeling of stiff muscles the morning after some good exercise.

I gag at the smell of cooking meat!
But, what I really dislike the most...
Know-it-alls.
You know the type, they have a definitive answer and explantation for all magic. When older people can't bring themselves to the level of a child, or when young people just want to be old.

I also don't like perfumes. I don't wear them and I don't buy scented lotions, shampoo or conditioners, or deodorant.
Also, I can't stand carbonated drinks. I always feel like crap afterwards when I drink them and caffeine either puts me into a mediative state or makes me tired.

i absolutely cannot stand the sound of people chewing, or the sound that TVs make. i also hate the sound of buses squeeling to a stop, or of course the classic nails on a chalkboard. i'm very sensitive to harsh sounds mostly.. edit-spelled sensitive wrong

OH god.. Arya, ya jus reminded me of dinner times ¬¬
Probably one of the contributing reasons I don't typically like to eat with my family.
There is ALWAYS one long giant screech of fork, and or knife, on plate >< Makes my bones splinter.

I agree with newsociety, hearing people chew drives me absolutely crazy. The smell of popcorn is also terrrible to me, I don't know why. Ech. I don't like lamps or lights that point directly upward or don't have some kind of a shade on them. It's silly, but I just don't enjoy how a room feels with light like that. I however LOVE the smell of late night and of early morning, and the smell of a thunderstorm, or pretty much any kind of rain.

odors bother me to no end. I've been saying I'm "allergic" to cigarette smoke...part of that is true enough--some certain cigarettes, if I'm around them for a few minutes, my throat becomes really sore. It's to the point that I can't even spend the night at my friend's house, her parents smoke in her house. If I sleep over, I will wake up the next morning sick--it will have started with a sore throat the night before from the cigarettes, and escalate. Some cigarettes don't bother me as much though...it's weird...but most of them bother me a lot. I hate it when I'm in a class, and some kid who's been smoking comes in late and sits either right behind me or in front of me...the cigarette smoke kills my throat. If I have musical theatre or a voice lesson that day, I'm screwed. Strong perfumes make me gag too, luckily I don't get a lot of that, and when I do it's usually in a large hallway. I can't stand driving at night, either...everyone's lights shine so brightly. Part of that is because I drive a short, tiny car, and everyone else drives SUVs...so their lights really do shine directly into my eyes much of the time.
Kiva...carbonated drinks kill me too...and I can't stand coffee either, the smell or the taste. I used to drink cokes to get the caffeine w/o the nasty taste, but now I can't do that anymore...I don't usually have caffeine at all anymore, if I do it's in a mint form.

Melted butter makes me gag. I have no problem with butter/margarine in it's semi-solid form, but I cannot stand the smell and look of melted butter... uhg, I'm feeling ill just thinking about it. X___x lol

All those smells you mentioned drive me insane too, whenever I smell perfume I immediately start sneezing and gagging, it's sooo embarrassing now that I'm in college and the girls feel the need to douse themselves in it... I can't count how many classes I've stopped by sneezing five or six times in a row from some girl next to me. Along with unnatural smells like that, I also find that I can't stand junk food or soda, and canned food like beans or pasta I can taste chemicals in it. Also, scented candles and incense, uuuugh makes me gag. Bright light annoys me, I go in to a 6AM class and when I leave at 8AM, the sun is already so bright that I'm literally blind and can't open my eyes all the way until I'm halfway to my car and have sneezed maybe four times... this helps me adjust my eyes for some reason. And yes, flourescent lights, but also just being around too many electrical devices in general, I start feeling dizzy and nauseas. Like for instance, I just got a TV moved into my room, and I can't be on my computer and have the TV on at the same time because I'll get sick. Strangely enough, when I see plants that have been butchered or cut, that really really bothers me too. I feel bad for the plant, haha weird huh? I looove the smells of nature though, just like what you said Laurel, sometimes I'll just go into my backyard and breathe. Also, I can't stand being indoors, after a while I start to feel claustrophobic. When I enter a house, I can literally feel the walls close off around me, there's nothing like being under an open blue sky. Hehe, guess that's it. I'm starting to lose my taste for meat too, it just tastes weird, especially chicken and beef... I don't know, my appetite has been changing a lot lately, heh.

well, I don't like the smell of meat either, except I somehow like it if I am eating it. I'm the same with rasins. I don't like the thought of plants being cut either, except to use them as food. I also don't like the smell of cigarette smoke. That's interesting about melted butter, I wont touch the stuff unless it's melted. As time progresses after my shift, I find there are increasing numbers of foods I don't like, especially unhealthy ones. I don't really like meat these days either. Something funny about people dowsing themselves with stuff that smells bad: a few times (usually after a long day) I have been complimented on my choice of deodorant, when in fact I haven't been wearing any. If most people can't distinguish between body odour and deodorant, and the one person that can prefers body odour, I'm thinking why does deodorant sell well? I also love the smell that appears in the air the day before a rainstorm, except I can't smell it where I'm living now because it's there all the time.

The only kind of meat I eat with any kind of regularity these days is white meat. I also don't like cigarette smoke either and bright lights also drive me nuts (but not sunlight for some reason unless it's right in my eyes). But... then again, I've got glasses and had bright lights shined in my eyes so the eye doctor can see my retina since I can re-member.

Yeah, my eyes are very light blue, and they say that when people have lighter colored eyes it makes them more sensitive to light. I also have stigmatism *sp* in one eye, but it's soooo slight that the doctors said it shouldn't be causing me these problems. Living in California though there's so much bright sun, and the smog in the air I'm sure intensifies it or something, because when I visit Washington (where I grew up, much cloudier there), I don't have such extreme reponses to sunlight. Oh man... does anyone else here get sick when they sit in those classes that have the really low intensity flourescent lights that don't output very fast so it makes you nauseas? I remember when I was in public school sometimes I just had to put my head down and close my eyes if the lights were like that. I'm sure everyone thought I was weird, hah.
