Hi,
My son is afraid to sleep alone. Anywhere. He has to touch someone to sleep. Has all his life. He had a very rough start and we chose to have a family bed. Now he is 5 and still wont stay in his bed. He will if I'm in the room. The minute I leave he is sure to follow within 15-30 minutes. He has never slept alone without someone in the room or touching him. Foot, head, hand. Arm leg. Whatever. We have cleansed the room. Talked about AA Mike, got monster spray, monster powder, lights on, music on, tv on, all off, nite light on, move him from our bed into his after he is sleeping. 30 min. max before he is back with us. I've asked why, scared of being taken away.
Any suggestions?
Thank you, wer

I can imagine that your situation must be stressful at times but I believe the important thing is not to pull him away from what he considers to be a safe environment. This is just a shot in the dark but have you tried using an animal, like a dog, to stay in the room with him? Ya know something that can replicate a person being there with him.
Other than that I'm not sure what to suggest, if he thinks he needs someone there with him I don't think he'll have it any other way. To force him into the situation where he has to sleep alone against his will could have some serious negative effects on him. I wish you all the best and hope you find a practical solution to your problem. Good luck! ;D
